Lutheran World Federation - Department of World Service (LWF-DWS) general correspondence files (1952-1984) contain correspondence, memoranda, reports, project lists, financial statements, and publications regarding Department activities in providing for mission needs throughout the world, and specifically pertaining to the U.S.A. National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation (USANC) and Lutheran World Ministries' (LWM) support of and cooperation with the Department's program. Correspondence is that of the USANC and LWM General Secretaries Paul C. Empie (1967-1972, 1974-1975), Carl H. Mau, Jr. (1973-1974), and Paul A. Wee (1976-1986). Correspondents include LWF-DWS Directors Henry J. Whiting, Reuben Baetz, Bengt R. Hoffman, and Bruno Muetzelfeldt. Files dating from 1952-1966 were maintained by Paul C. Empie in his capacity as National Lutheran Council (NLC) Executive Director.
